Floor Levelness Checker
Free foundation tool

Floor Levelness Checker

Enter a floor reading, door gap and crack notes to see how your floor compares and what to do next.

These tools give planning-level estimates from typical values. They are not quotes, designs or engineering, and results depend on your actual foundation, soil, drainage, site conditions and local rules. Only a site visit can confirm what a project needs, and we give you a written scope and price before any work begins.

How it works

Four quick steps.

  1. 01

    Take a floor reading

Measure the height difference between two points on the floor at a known distance apart.

  2. 02

    Note the door gap

The gap at the top of a door frame, in eighths of an inch.

  3. 03

    Note cracks

None, hairline or wide, near the area.

  4. 04

    Read the result

How the floor compares and what to do next.

Tips

  • A laser level, a water level or a long straight board and a tape can all give a reading.
  • Take several readings across the floor, since the pattern matters more than one number.
  • Measure again in a different season to see if it changes.
Questions

About this tool.

What is a normal slope?

Most older floors are not perfectly level. A small slope is common, and a growing or sudden one deserves a look.

Why do doors matter?

A door gap that is uneven across the top can mean the frame has changed shape.

Is this a diagnosis?

No. It is a general guide and only an inspection can confirm the cause.
